Her loss—and her link to the racy, rambunctious secret history of American movies—makes the city a duller place. But in heaven right about now, the joint is jumpin’.
Jim Ridley

Your Name : Tim
How You Knew June : My Mom

Your Thoughts: I loved her and miss her immensely. I know she is smiling and dancing with and among the stars, reunited with my dad and beginning the next grand journey. Will I see her again? Of this I have no doubt.

Your Name : Andy vR
How You Knew June : she asked me to be her boyfriend

Your Thoughts: June was and is one of the biggest life forces i have ever met. she was like a walking bundle of radiating energy everywhere she went, and you always could feel her presence in the room, no matter how big it was. an amazing soul. i can feel her more now that she is liberated from her body than i have the last couple of years, now that she is free to move about, to guard over Tim and keep an eye on what the rest of us are doing. i love her my second mom.

Your Name : Linda Wylie
How You Knew June : Unfortunately, I did not know her personally...

Your Thoughts: But I know her son and through him I can see a spirit that surely lit the lights of any marquee.

June, soar high and free and be at peace. We'll take care of Tim. He has many friends and that is a testiment to you and your beloved husband with whom now you have been reunited.

Your Name : Dan Meyer
How You Knew June : Known her for years, tried to be her straight man

Your Thoughts: I think I first met June when she and Tim and Little Boy used to come out to Centennial Park for juggling back in the late 80's. Over the years we've seen her at parties and film events, always cracking jokes and reminiscing about the old days.

I had the privilege of working with June in the tribute movie that Tim put together of her life, and I *tried* to be her straight man and imitate some of the straight men from her Vaudeville days.

What a character June was... always shining, her eyes dancing, and always cracking those jokes. I know she is happier now... June, we miss you, but we still see you in Tim, and we will take care of him for you... You'll always be alive in our memories...

Dan

Your Name : Mark Ramey
How You Knew June : my friend Tim, and the flickers

Your Thoughts: One of the brightest lights may have gone out on our marque, but heaven has a new star shining brilliantly.

June and Tim have been my adopted family since I've been in Nashville, I'll always treasure the memories of Sunday afternoon Waffle House followed by a movie as well as the many projects where I was fortunate to work with her.

I'm sure she's looking down on us all with a twinkle in her eye. . .

Your Name : Mark Pleasant
How You Knew June : Makin' movies

Your Thoughts: I can still hear her voice over the din. Her excitement, her enthusiasm, her joy, was and will always be a source of encouragement to me. She loved life and loved making and watching movies as much as I do. That glorious creative-spark will never fade it was shared and nourished in all that met little June and is carried by Tim as well. God bless you June you are and will always be a treasure.

Your Name : Diane Jordan
How You Knew June : I was one of her chorines in "Monster And The Stripper"

Your Thoughts: I fondly remember June's patience, teaching the six of us how to do a dance routine, with huge, feather fans. Five of us weren't really dancers, so it must have been a challange for her, but she remained cheerful through it all! I enjoyed the Q&A session that she and Tim conducted at the Nashville Film Festival, in 11/02. June was the star of the evening, bringing the house down with her comments on Ginger Rogers and her "stage mother!" Tim was committed to caring for June, to the end. That's all that any mother could hope for.

Your Name : Chuck Mignosa
How You Knew June : Through Ormond McGill

Your Thoughts: I am saddend to hear of June's passing. My thoughts are with you.

Your Name : Jerry Foster
How You Knew June : through working in film with her

Your Thoughts: I loved June...She was a joy to work with..Rehearsing and filming with her was a hoot..I'm sure she's having a ball in heaven right now...Tim, if anyone gets a final reward for loyalty to a parent, you've got an Oscar coming...I'm looking forward to seeing you both at that big wrap party someday...Only those of us who have experienced the loss of a mother know how you feel Tim...God be with you...

Your Name : David J.Bennett
How You Knew June : Met her at film functions

Your Thoughts: Tim,

I'm so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. It was an honor to have known her. I feel that she was the 1st Lady of film in our state. She had been there-done that and what a joy she was to be around.

You had her for many years and, take it from me, you still have her. She merely crossed a portal and can look back at you and her life with great joy. I'm sure she has reconnected with your Dad and all happiness abounds.

Please try and color your sadness with joy for a life fulfilled and complete. You represent her well, my brother. I hope to see you soon.

Your Name : Barbara Meroney aka TP
How You Knew June : From Tim and the Jugglers

Your Thoughts: I'm thankful to have gotten to know her and to have been her friend. She told me some great stories about when she was in Vaudeville, about Bela Lugosi, Bob Hope, Ed Wood, and many more. We loved the trips to the casino. When I saw her less than a month ago I asked her if she was ready to go to the casino and that sparkle came to her eye and amidst all her pain a grin came to her face.

I really admire you for taking care of her and managing everything the way you did just to be there for her. You could have had lots of jobs but you knew your obligation. I know she is proud for you taking care of her. You were there with her until the end.

June was a great woman and I appreciate the opportunity of her sharing with me what it was like to be with and in fame and fortune. She always kept a face of dignity and always had that aire of royalty about her. She is now out of her pain and reunited with your Dad. She will live on inside of you and will always be there with you. She's watching from above and will be guiding you to your success. God will be taking you down a new road and the chance of opportunity is yours for the taking. Be thankful you had her as long as you have. Like you told me a long time ago, when one door closes another one opens. Get ready to make her star shine bright!

Your Name : Kathy Binns (Clifton)
How You Knew June : I was her "lead dancer" in "Monster and The Stripper"

Your Thoughts: I was only 16 years old, and in June, I felt that I had met show business royalty. The energy she radiated was contagious, and she made me feel very special indeed. There's nothing I would trade for the experience of doing that movie, and working with such a shining star. There will never be another June. She was the one and only.

Your Name : randy moore
How You Knew June : I'm a friend of Tim's

Your Thoughts: I remember a very simple June who seemed to always have a humorus outlook on things. June liked being "June". We should all be so inclined to get to place where we like ourselves.

My prayers are with a great guy Tim. Hang in there buddy.

Your Name : Jerome Holland
How You Knew June : on set

Your Thoughts: It is very sad to hear of the loss of someone that has given so much. I met June and Tim Ormond on the set of "Blood, Friends, and Money". There I had the pleasure of learning of the incredible works of June Ormond. I am very thankful to have had the pleasure to have been in the presence of June. I will always remember the way she made me laugh on the set. My heart goes out to the family and friends of June.

Jerome N. Holland

Your Name : Fran Pultro
How You Knew June : film production

Your Thoughts: I was blessed to become acquainted with June during production of an Ormond film in the 1980's. She was warm & very loving, opening her home to my wife & I during a trying time in our lives. During that summer I was blessed with a new friend, her son, Tim. We bonded on a spiritual level which I still feel. He is the product of both his parents. I greatly appreciate her input into his life. June was not only warm & loving, she also said some of the darndest things! Yes, the world will certainly be a duller place without her. I look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.

Your Name : Bobbie Gallup
How You Knew June : Only through talking with Tim

Your Thoughts: Though I never had the joy of experiencing June's colorful personality first hand, I feel the loss because I know Tim. His devotion to her has been clear to us all. She is probably regaling new audiences now and although there is relief that she is free of the pain..nothing truly ever prepares us for the void that a presence such as hers will leave in our lives.
Bless you, Tim. May the good Lord cup you in the palm of His hand and bring you comfort.

Bobbie

Your Name : Jordan Gosnell
How You Knew June : I portrayed June as a young girl.

Your Thoughts: At the age of nine, I was chosen to portray a young June in Tim's "Forgotten Memories." I felt blessed to work with June, and the moment I met her it was clear to me what a beautiful life force she was--and always will be. June remains to be inspiring to me, and I know I will see her again someday.

Jordan

Your Name : The Cecil Scaifes
How You Knew June : Ron and Cecil were the best of friends and we all met June through the films Ron produced for Cecil. Then before ; we knew it, our entire family was involved and played some role in their filmaking and we all just loved her, her colorful style of dress a

Your Thoughts: Our mother Sherytha will always remember the night Ron, Cecil, June and mother had just finished filming and gone to the International House of Pancakes for either a late night or really early meal and the place was intruded by 2 gunman. Mother said they all jumped under the table and everyone started taking their jewelry off. I am sure June was writing her next script. We all loved her and Ron. Tim our deepest sympathies and prayers are with you. Sherytha and Cecil Scaife, LaQuita, LaRawn, Joe and LaQuela.

Your Name : Rebel
How You Knew June : Thru Tim, personal friend, bit part in her later work

Your Thoughts: I never left a conversation with June without laughing and smiling. She would always put that extra spark into any conversation. I just felt she was going to break out in song (and a little dance if she could)....and she usually DID! The world needs more animated and thoughtful citizens like June Ormond. Now that she has passed I'll never know the real truth about those stories of her and the visiting outer space aliens. She totally believed it, and on the numerous occasions she would tell me the stories I believed it too...! Some deserve immortality and my vote would have been for June to have her health, spark and an immortality pill. I never knew her in her pre-senior citizen being, but I can guarantee that she must have been a laugh a minute, full of optimism and always seeing the sunny side of the street, just like she did in later years. She never died, her body just got older. I know she's dancing and singing with the angels now... I'll miss you June.

Your Name : Bucky Carter
How You Knew June : Lunch, diner , and visits.

Your Thoughts: We all have a momma. They're all a blessing. My 93 year old Momma remembered June after one meeting. Now THAT'S an impression.

Your Name : Tessa
How You Knew June : I know Tim

Your Thoughts: Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the lucky ones to have known June but I know Tim. I would just like to say Tim is a good-hearted person and I feel that is a reflection of June. She must have been very special. You are in my thoughts and prayers Tim. Love - Tessa

Your Name : Jeffrey Alan Chase
How You Knew June : met her several times with Tim

Your Thoughts: Every mother should be so lucky to have a son like Tim who selflessly demonstrated his love and dedication. She's definitely smiling.

Your Name : Susan Carol Davis
How You Knew June : June came out for many a filmmakers' gathering when I lived in Nashville 7 years ago.

Your Thoughts: As the saying goes, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"; so, when you love the son, you love his mother. June enjoyed laughter with friends. She birthed not only a dear son,Tim, but also, many a "what ifs" and "how abouts" in her years of creative filmmaking. Thank you, June, and thank you, God, for giving us many great moments with her.

Your Name : Carol
How You Knew June : a bright star in our constellation

Your Thoughts: For many years June provided the sparkle and shine among a group of entertainers, filmmakers, and their "hangers-on": all much younger than June. None of us could compete with her verve and jest for life. What I remember most is laughter - hers and ours. I cannot think of her without smiling. I am warmed by the image of her now, surrounded by family and friends, old and new, laughing, story telling, and performing. You go girl!

Your Name : Tom Bixby
How You Knew June : Met through Tim

Your Thoughts: June's love and enthusiasm for independent filmaking will always be an inspiration to me. I will always remember how hard she had us laughing as she told us film war stories during the limo ride to and from her 90th birthday celebration at the "Monster and the Stripper" screening. The unmatched love and dedication she inspired in her son is all you need to know about what a wonderful person she was. Sometimes on film sets when I have run up against B.S. or egos standing in the way of getting a scene done right, I have thought of June and how I believed she would have brushed the nonsense aside with a laugh and a wave of the hand.

Your Name : Ann Gillis
How You Knew June : Met through Tim...used a June clip from " Monster & the Stripper" in one of our movies.

Your Thoughts: Tim, you were a very good son! You were kind and loving at all times. You gave your Mum love and limelight until her very last days. Your Mother shared her love, laughter and talent with everyone. She was a vibrant lady, you had fine parents. May God bless you and keep you.
Sincere regards, Ann.

Your Name : Pamela Hamilton

Your fabulous mother was a true inspiration to all in the film community; Her's was a life long journey as a film maker with immense passion. I keep you in my thoughts.

Your Name : Tim
How You Knew June : My Mom

Your Thoughts: Since my mom has passed, I have been overwhelmed with emotion; also with friendship and caring. Not only am I fortunate to have such a caring circle of friends, but ALSO that they counted June as a friend, and not merely my mom.

As the days have passed since July 14th, I've had moments of extreme grief, also moments when my soul has been greatly touched.

Thanks to all of you who have helped and are continuing to help in so many ways.

While in a some ways I shy away from next Tuesday and a final goodbye; I also look forward to seeing those who knew my mom and appreciate her spirit.

Her spirit which lives on... yes in me... but also in all those she touched through the years.

I miss you mom... but I see your light and laughter in all the posts on this page, and all the phone calls and emails I've received.

Your son... Tim

Your Name : Madelyn
How You Knew June : Film Projects and John Calvert extravaganza

Your Thoughts: I am so sorry to hear of June's passing. I have such fond memories of her during those days doing the John Calvert extravaganza. I speak of her and you often with a warm heart. I am sure your life has been busy lately taking care of her. How wonderful that you were able to have her for so long in your life.

She was definitely a unique woman who had a very interesting life and one which she seemed to love living.

Your Name : Stan Moore
How You Knew June : Through numerous music vids she did with me

Your Thoughts: I'm very sorry to hear that the lovely , sweet, and very funny Ms. June has passed. I'm sorry for you because I know how much you loved her. But we must rejoice for her as she joins your father and Thee Father in heaven. I think it's harder for us who are left behind to accept this.

I believe it's the hardest test of our faith. I pray that the pain you are experiencing will pass.
your friend, stan

Your Name : Bill Anderson
How You Knew June : Through their Movies!

Your Thoughts: I first met June, Ron and Tim on the set of their film, "Monster and The Stripper". I had the wonderful experience of working on several films with the family. What great talents, just a self contained little production company, they could, and did, "do it all!" I'm proud to say we've been friends for a very long time. I have many great memories of Ron, June & Tim together and separately. But I guess to me June was always a "Star" in the trues sense, in every sense, not only was she a talented performer on stage and on the screen, But like a star June was always "On"! She was a bright spot in everyone's life, if you were down she had a way of lifting your chin and your sights toward the heavens. And now she's given us another reason to look up. I know June will be up there among the other Stars, looking down, watching over every person in this entertainment community, that puts a pen to paper, tries on a costume, sings a song, looks through a camera lens or tries a new dance step. June will be cheering you on, shining her light on your talent, and I don't beleive that her star will ever burn out! And that's comforting!
P.S. Tim, my friend, you are truly special, and everybody know it! You have been a blessing to your mother, and your love and action have been an blessing and an inspiration to us all.

Your Name : Ken Goddard
How You Knew June : Thru Tim....and the Ormond film classics.

Your Thoughts: I will always remember how, at the Nashville Film Festival, she still had the charisma and zest for life to truly captivate an entire audience. Now, again, a shining star.

Your Name : Doug & Cheri Whitley
How You Knew June : We ARE friends.

Your Thoughts: Cheri and I love June. We loved to have breakfast and listen to her stories about making movies. The things she did, the people she met. She was our connection with the golden age of films. To be with her was to bask in the warmth and light of her personality. She has just walked on the set of the longest and best shoot of her life. Love to you Tim for sharing your mom with us.

Your Name : Brandon Sinks
How You Knew June : she was like Family

Your Thoughts: I loved June and Ron and Tim and knew them my whole life. My grandparents and parents were involved in alot of their films. And myself as well were in a couple of Tim's productions. He and June always made me feel part of what they were doing, not to mention a part of their family.I will say June always helped me to walk thru the back door of their home and not be so scared of the poster cut outs of their monster movies, and the big Budda up stairs. She would hold my hand as we walked thru the editing room where they stood in a dim lit hall and saying sweet things to me.I will miss june as I do Ron.
In Christ,
Brandon

Your Name : David D. Duncan
How You Knew June : Co-writer of Ormond Articles (NASHVILLE SCENE, PSYCHOTRONIC)

Your Thoughts: June was one of the last true vaudevillians, a link to a now-lost world that gets farther away each day. Her indomitable spirit and accomplishments as a pioneering female motion picture producer were precious gifts that she generously shared with us throughout her life.

I've always done my best to keep the Ormond legend alive and the time I spent interviewing both June and Tim was never less than fascinating.

Tim, my utmost thanks to you for your willingness to keep June in the public eye (where she belonged) and my endless gratitude to your father and June for having you to share your creative talents with us.

Knowing of your mother's deep and enduring spiritual beliefs, I have no doubt the entire Ormond organization will be happily reunited in the Great Beyond.

As for now, another new star shines bright in heaven tonight...June Carr Ormond.

Your Name : Armanda Costanza
How You Knew June : Through Tim

Your Thoughts: I met Tim in the mid-80's, and we became good friends over the years through work and mutual friends. I had heard about Tim's Mom through friends like Mark Ramey and Madeline Bell, but I didn't officially meet June until 1996, when Tim brought her to A.C., Inc.

She (and Little Boy) came into the office and met everyone there that day. And in no time, she had everyone -- including my family (of course), employees, friends, camera assistants and probably even the mail man -- all entertained! It didn't matter who was at the office (or how old they were), from that first day, everyone was happy to see June come by for a visit.

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with June that year, in "Blood, Friends & Money." I couldn't (then, and still couldn't) tell anyone how to play Rosalie, the way June did. She knew exactly how to play the quirky, offbeat character -- and even though she probably had the least amount of screen time, she certainly gave Jim Varney a run for his money at stealing the show.

Tim, some people could have larger families than yours, but none could be as close as you and June were. You were the best son a Mother could hope for and I'm so sorry for your loss and pain. I know that June has a sparkle in her eyes and she's putting on a show right now. Here, there and everywhere -- everyone is entertained and everyone loves June.

I love you Tim. You have been, you are and you always will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Your Name : Michael Oviatt
How You Knew June : Through Tim and the jugglers

Your Thoughts: From 1986 until 1995 I lived in Nashville and was part of the juggling group that would eat Mexican food at Las Palmas on Charlotte Ave after our gatherings. The gathering didn't seem complete until June showed up. The group was just as much about having fun as it was about juggling and thus June fit right in. I recall watching her film clips one Thanksgiving at my house with Tim and others. She had talent. She will be missed.

Your Name : Norma Tillman
How You Knew June : Barbara Meroney

Your Thoughts: Having a talented son like Tim is such a tribute to what a wonderful lady his mom was. I admire Tim so much for his dedication to taking care of her every need. No doubt her legacy will live on thru Tim. I know that Tim will miss June, but have no doubts that he will keep her memory alive thru his future works. June's spirit will remain an inspiration to all who knew her.

May God continue to bless you.

Your Name : Wendy Miller
How You Knew June : Personal Friend and Caregiver

Your Thoughts: Yes, June's soul lives on and she watches over us. I've already had my first confirmation of that. She was definitely upbeat and with me the night that I learned of her passing. Even though I had four years to prep myself, I don't think I could have ever been ready.

I have kept pages upon pages of memoirs of my "Life With June" to one day share with her permission.

She's now our shining star and guardian angel!

Your Name : Donna Phillips
How You Knew June : Meeting June at her 90th Birthday Celebration

Your Thoughts: I came from California for June's 90th Birthday Celebration. I was in the limo with June traveling to the screening event of "The Monster and the Stripper”. All who where there were having such a great time listening June tell so many stories about her career as an actress, dancer, and all the movies projects in which she was involved. She was being video taped and had incredible recall. It was hard to believe she was 90! She had such a remarkable life and a wonderful, interesting career. I hope she is dancing with angels.

Your Name : Robert L. Bayliss, CH, CI
How You Knew June : I met June through her son, and my friend, Tim.

Your Thoughts: I met June when Tim and I became acquainted through our mutual friend, Ormond McGill. Although I only spoke to her briefly, it was evident that her love for Tim was every bit as strong as I'd seen in his love for her. June's physical strength was starting to weaken, but her mental acuity was still sharp and full of spirit.
Soon afterward, I had the opportunity to loan June a special type of hospital bed so that she could be more comfortable, and through more of Tim's love and hard work, she was able to keep it. As I've come to know Tim more, I've certainly come to know June, realizing that not only was she an actress, a wife and loving mother; she was a lady. I'm so glad for her that she is now free from her ailing body and able to soar with the angels. Someday, I'll get to know her better. For now, though, I'm blessed to have her in my memory and know her loving son, Tim.

Your Name : Frank Provost LaVarre
How You Knew June : Through Tim and the Jugglers

Your Thoughts: I think it was at at a party at Bob Hope's house, or Tex Ritters... or maybe at Las Palmas or Jody and Carol Baileys, but it was a fun moment to meet June.

She was sure to have an interesting story to tell that was recounted in a spirited manner. She wanted to go to Egypt but was unable to, so Tim and his friends brought Egypt to her, and that birthway party was wonderful, and she was delighted and really hammed it up. How lucky for Tim to have her for so many years, and how lucky for us to also enjoy her company and have memories of a wonderful woman for many years to come.

Your Name : Darlyne Butcher Redd
How You Knew June : Met her when just an 11 yr. old girl and my mother was asked to help with hair and makeup for their first Christian film

Your Thoughts: When I met this tiny woman it didn't take long to realize she was all TNT. She had such a zest for life that I've not met another like her since. One could sit and listen to her stories for hours making one feel in her presence that she had to be royalty. I am so proud of Tim who having dear friends closer to him than me, am privileged and humbled to name him MY best friend. For someone who joked about a lack of patience he proves as I Cor. 13 states that real love is "patient, kind, long suffering..." and that he's had it all along. The sacrifices he made for his mom, the decision not to put her in and a nursing home preferring to care for her himself even at the risk of losing his home is a testimonial of his true character and honors the parents who raised him. I'm sure his mom and dad are busting with pride like we, his friends feel and my prayers go with Tim that our Father will richly reward him and fulfill the dreams he has had to put on hold.

Love,
Your FF,
Darlyne

Your Name : Tom Meyer
How You Knew June : pure luck

Your Thoughts: June was made of happiness. Always the bright spot and consistantly putting her audience first. An entertainer who never stopped sharing her humor, her love, and an occasional fan dance.
While I feel the sadness of Tim's (and everyone's) loss.....I cannot help smiling each time I think of her and celebrating that I was lucky enough to have know her. Thank you June!

Your Name : Shelley Allen
How You Knew June : Through Tim

Your Thoughts: Today's the day of Celebration
And oh, such a life to be celebrated,
so vibrant...
and Reflection...our feelings...

My husband, Troy, asked "Is this shirt OK for tonight?"
I said whatever you are comfortable in will be fine,
people wear everything nowadays.
Troy replied maybe I should dress up like that
monster that pulled the man's arm off and hit
him over the head with it.
I chuckled and realized aloud that June would really get a kick out of that!

June... such a joy...

Tim... one who's always there helping out others.
Friends, family, community.
He's given so much...

June could not have been more loved.

Your Name : Claudia & Bill
How You Knew June : Bill met the Ormonds 30 or more years ago and worked in films with Ormond Family, and Claudia met Tim & June through Bill

Your Thoughts: It is a great loss, but June has left a part of her incredible spirit behind in her son, Tim, who reflects her qualities of acceptance of everyone and kindness to all, not to mention a knowledge of film that is like a second skin. Thank you, June, for giving us Tim!

Your Name : Keith & Marcy Jones
How You Knew June : Through Tim & the Jugglers

Your Thoughts: We got to know June through the jugglers, and, to put it bluntly, she was a hoot. Always a smile, always a story and always a laugh. She was at all of the jugglers functions, Las Palmas, weddings and parties. I got shoot one of her last retrospectives while working with Tennessee Crossroads, and what better way to say it than, June was herself. Her stories, her laugh and her smile is how we will remember her.
Thanks June.

Your Name : Earl and Rita Sinks
How You Knew June : Thru Smiley and Kitty

Your Thoughts: "June and Ron Ormond" met my parents in 1949 while they were in California filming Square Dance Jubilee. Dad was contacted by the Ormonds in 1963 while they were searching for new talent with singing and acting abilities. Not wanting to let friendship influence their opinion Dad didn't tell them Earl Sinks Richards was his son-in-law. June and Ron came to town for a meeting with Earl and myself and it was an instant love affair between the families. I was pregnant with our first child, and June and Ron were with us when she arrived October 10, 1963. They became her Godparents. As Earl was directed by Ron in several films, June took me under her wing and taught me to be her make-up assistant. I loved that part of the film industry and June enjoyed my help. But I think underneath all the make-up she wanted me on set so she could help protect my interests. You see, some of the leading ladies were pretty and lets just say --- ambitious. Between the two of us, Earl and Ron were very protected.

Fried chicken dinners at our place became a ritual, especially after Tim came home from school in Louisiana. June's laughter was contagious, keeping us all going when we were down. She loved animals. Once when Tim and Ron were gone, she called Earl to come over and tell her what this animal was that she had been feeding. It turned out to be a sewer rat that had gotten so fat from eating he could hardly walk.

But that was the heart of June. She loved all animals and all people. She was kind in spirit -- and forever compassionate.

We loved her then, we will miss her now, and will cherish her memory forever.

Through the love of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior,"

How You Knew June : Through Tim and working with her on Blood Friends and Money

Your Thoughts: Tim brought June to our house, a few summers ago. Bob was grilling hamburgers and fix one for June the exact way she wanted it. From then on, I was known as the wife of the man that made the best hamburger she ever ate.

She was a wonderful lady, and will be missed by all of us.

God has a special place for her in heaven.

How You Knew June : Her memorial service

Your Thoughts: I attended your mother's memorial yesterday(7/25/2006) at RSN. I saw the spirit and joy in her heart. I was moved by the love of her son and caring attention of her friends. She seemed like a very special individual. Some one who reminds us to embrace every moment of our lives with joy. I did a little research on her career and accomplishments. It would be wonderful to see pictures of her: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0139765/ and her late husband Ron Ormond -http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0650259/ Both are National treasures and should always be remembered. Tim, May her spirit always stay close to your heart.

Your Name : Jim Ridley
How You Knew June : Her movies

Your Thoughts: My first encounter with June Ormond was through a movie called The Monster and the Stripper, also known as The Exotic Ones. It’s a movie about a caveman who rips off a man’s arm and beats him to death with it. He then goes to New Orleans and ends up in a strip club, where we the audience have to watch pretty much every act. This strikes me as a template that more filmmakers should follow.

Anyway, one of the strip acts is a woman doing a fan dance, one of the all-time great striptease specialties. And the woman is June Ormond. I think she was in her 60s when this was made. She twirls around her fans, shakin’ her moneymaker, always making sure to cover herself strategically, until the last moment. She turns around and walks away, and you see that she’s wearing one of those flannel union suits with the flap over the bottom.

This is the entertainment tradition June represented. Sell the sizzle, not the steak was the old carny motto, and somehow the Ormonds’ movies always managed to give you both. I was thrilled, about 10 years ago, to find out that the Ormonds actually worked out of Nashville when they made movies like The Exotic Ones. June Ormond tied Nashville to this marvelous, wide-open, disreputable history of American movies that you never hear about.

When people today say “independent film,” they think they’re talking about the tradition of John Cassavetes and John Sayles, something nobler and purer than Hollywood movies. What they’re really talking about is June Ormond doing her fan dance, or June Ormond promoting a picture called Untamed Mistress by driving a guy through rural Georgia in a gorilla suit, with a straw stuck through its nose so he could drink. Filmmakers like June Ormond showed other people wanting to make their own movies how to beat the studio system, and they did it with a combination of vaudeville flair, good humor, a wink and a nudge, and a genuine desire to entertain.

I got to meet June when Dave Duncan and I did a story on her and Tim for the Scene, and it remains one of the most fun pieces I’ve ever worked on. And a large part of that was meeting June. Her stories about showbiz life were like my parents’ stories about growing up in Murfreesboro: the more she told them, the better they got. And she didn’t have to make anything up. Edward Wood Jr. Bob Hope, Minnie Pearl and Sleepy LaBeef are all one degree of separation removed, and that one degree is June.

I got to watch June work on the set of Blood, Friends and Money, and it was like watching the history of 20th-century show business distilled to a bouillon cube. She could not have been more professional or polished, and she made everyone on the set heirs to her tradition as a trouper. I got cast in a part tailored to my acting abilities: a mute called Ghost. Look for me someday on the DVD. From that day on, June called me Ghost every time she saw me, and it tickled me every time. I was delighted to be her Ghost. I cannot imagine someone better cast as a happy medium.

I remember watching the Ormond movies when Dave and I were writing the article, and I was struck that June had Tim’s whole life on film. He was a little boy in the early films, a growing kid in The Exotic Ones, and a young man in The Grim Reaper, and June once said that seeing Tim all grown up in that made her cry. Tim’s mother loved him dearly, and every parent should be loved so deeply in return.

So what we should all do tonight is: put our hands over our hearts and pledge to do something we put not only all of our spirit into, but also all of June’s. She traveled the country hoofing it up and making people laugh; she worked all her days with a family she adored; she made the world of moviemaking a lot less pretentious and a lot more fun. And she made everyone she encountered feel like brighter days were ahead. She was always looking forward to the next curtain. And now, June Ormond will be what she always was in life: an eternal optimist.

How You Knew June : I met June and Ron many years ago when they first came to Nashville

Your Thoughts: I did alot of work for the ORMONDS. I was ART DIRECTOR, SET DESIGNER FOR SO MANY OF THEIR FILM. I remember Ron giving me his book that he wrote YOUR CAREER IN HOLLYWOOD... Who would have ever thought in those days HOLLYWOOD was happening right here in Nashville. We, who worked on so many film were excited working with the pros who had that background; it was a joy to get a new script to get into.

Our days at the old TRAFCO STUDIOS on McGavock Avenue saw so many productions. I remembered doing a swamp scene in the main studio with trees, broken mirrors on the floor with lights shinning down on them and the flickering reflections like water was fun to create. It matched perfectly with live shots of a real swamp shot on location... AH THOSE WERE THE DAYS when we were young and lively and had opportunities. June and Ron are probably in the heavely editing suite checking on events happening there. We know who the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER IS THERE. ADIOS DEAR ONES, you will never be forgotten.
